Hipsters leave when a scene
isn't happening. I left when
a happening becomes a scene.
Even as the corpses burned
in higher stacks, some still
thought it'd be better to
cross over, hibernate
to a warmer climate
wake in half-death
to a future they didn't
have to think about.
Sides were taken.
The minute logic was
vs. everything else
I could smell the blood
that would be on my clothes
before a fight began.
I wasn't a coward,
I went guerrilla, sneaked
to the train tracks at midnight
to be home for Christmas
like my friends home for Iraq,
once more before a war
with no end in sight.
