It starts with what seems like a good idea
at the time. Cancer was targeted, Death
itself seemed within the reach of our grasp.
We were only trying to do good. Remember
that. We only wanted to bend base sickness
into a Golden Age. We only wanted to help
people live longer, better lives. We might
as well have tried harnessing the moon
to make calmer oceans. We had our hands
wrapped around things mankind should not
know. The Grand-Children of Prometheus,
we were no better than him. Stupid thieves
in lab coats; children playing with matches
in a mine field. Everything went to pieces
afterwards. All I can remember is the sound
of screaming that arose from the hard sound
of sirens that went off because of our safety
protocols regarding any laboratory accidents...
